{"id":12551,"date":"2023-02-07T14:22:52","date_gmt":"2023-02-07T14:22:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/scannn.com\/adding-friulian-as-a-language-setting-on-facebook\/"},"modified":"2023-02-07T14:22:52","modified_gmt":"2023-02-07T14:22:52","slug":"adding-friulian-as-a-language-setting-on-facebook","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/scannn.com\/lv\/adding-friulian-as-a-language-setting-on-facebook\/","title":{"rendered":"Adding Friulian as a Language Setting on Facebook"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Today, we\u2019re making Friulian, the minority language spoken in Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Italy, available as a language setting on Facebook.<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The initiative is a result of our collaboration with the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.regione.fvg.it\/rafvg\/cms\/RAFVG\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Regione Autonoma Friuli Venezia Giulia<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/arlef.it\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">ARLeF<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (Regional Agency for the Friulian Language) and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.insiel.it\/cms\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Insiel<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, the in-house ICT company of Friuli-Venezia Giulia, to promote everyday use of the local language spoken in Friuli.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The translated interface is now available not only to the Friulian population, but to everyone on Facebook globally.<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The project is part of the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">General Language Policy Plan for the Friulian Language 2021-2025<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, which supports the dissemination of Friulian on all major tech platforms.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In addition to Friulian, we offer several local Italian languages on Facebook. Sardinian, the language spoken in the Italian region of Sardinia, had already been introduced, and abroad, indigenous languages available include Aymara (in Bolivia), Inupiaq (in the U.S.) and Inuktitut (in Canada).<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cLanguage is an integral part of each person\u2019s identity and the area or region of the world to which they belong. It helps each of us communicate more personally and effectively, including through social platforms.<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Our hope is that the addition of Friulian to the languages on our platform can offer people in Friuli, especially younger people, a way to feel more involved and represented in their online community, and can help preserve and enhance our country\u2019s cultural heritage.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u2013 <\/span>Rosa Cialini, Government &amp; Social Impact Director of Meta in Southern Europe, Middle East and Africa.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h2><b>Translating Facebook into Friulian<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The translation of Facebook was conducted by <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/arlef.it\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">ARLeF<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> with the support of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.insiel.it\/cms\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Insiel<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> to ensure that people had the best experience on the app, ARLeF ensured that the translation was high quality and consistent with existing terminology.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cToday we are making available to everyone an additional tool with which we intend to encourage the use of the Friulian language in everyday life.
