Our <\/span>Community Standards<\/span><\/a> cover a number of areas relevant to elections and explain what content is and isn\u2019t allowed on Facebook and Instagram. This includes policies on harassment, incitement and violence, as well as detailed policies around hate speech that ban attacks on people based on characteristics like ethnicity or religion. We remove content that violates these rules as soon as we find it.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n As Election Day approaches, we will activate the T\u00fcrkiye Elections Operations Center, a Meta-wide initiative that brings together experts across the company including engineering, legal, research and analysis teams to identify potential threats across our apps in real-time and respond to them quickly.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n In specific cases, we remove misinformation from Facebook and Instagram entirely when it could contribute to imminent violence, cause physical harm or may be content intended to suppress voting, like incorrect information about voting dates, locations, time and methods.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n For all other types of misinformation, we focus on slowing the spread so fewer people see it and directing people to information from authoritative sources. To do this, we work with more than 90 independent third-party fact-checking organizations across the globe, including<\/span> Do\u011fruluk Pay\u0131<\/span><\/a> & <\/span>Teyit <\/span><\/a>in<\/span> T\u00fcrkiye.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n When our fact-checking partners rate a piece of content as false, we significantly reduce its distribution by showing it lower in Feeds so that fewer people see it, notify people who share the content \u2014 or who have previously shared it \u2014 that the information is false, and we apply a warning label that links to the fact-checker\u2019s article disproving the claim. When content is rated \u201cfalse\u201d, \u201cpartly false\u201d, or \u201caltered\u201d\u00a0 by our fact-checking partners in T\u00fcrkiye, we attach warning labels to that content and reduce its distribution so people are less likely to see it.<\/span><\/p>\n We\u2019ve made it easier for fact-checkers to find and rate content related to the Turkish Elections because we recognize that speed is especially important during breaking news events. We use keyword detection to group related content in one place, making it easy for fact-checkers to find.<\/span><\/p>\n In addition on WhatsApp, if people receive a message that sounds suspicious or inaccurate, we encourage them to double-check information with fact-checking organizations <\/span>Do\u011fruluk Pay\u0131 <\/span><\/a>or <\/span>Teyit<\/span><\/a> to confirm its accuracy.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n We also launched our \u201cHow to Fight Misinformation\u201d campaign to help people spot false news online and take action against it. As part of this campaign, we partnered with local radio stations to run commercials about how to spot misinformation and what you can do about it.<\/span><\/p>\n We value digital literacy education and have launched programs to improve it in T\u00fcrkiye, with an emphasis on identifying misinformation. In March and April 2023, we also partnered with academic, media and non-profit organizations \u2014 including Bilgi University, MediaWise and Habitat Association \u2014 to provide misinformation and election literacy training for adults.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Last year, we announced forwarding limits on WhatsApp, which ensures that any message forwarded once can only be forwarded to one group at a time. When we introduced the same feature for <\/span>highly forwarded messages <\/span><\/a>in 2020, the number of these messages sent on WhatsApp reduced by over 70%.<\/span><\/p>\n People can also control who can add them to group chats and have options to block and report unknown contacts, giving them even more control over their privacy.<\/span><\/p>\n Advertisers who want to run <\/span>ads<\/span><\/a> related to <\/span>social issues, elections or politics<\/span><\/a> on our apps must undergo a verification process to prove their identity and also verify their country of residence. Ads will also be labeled with a \u201cPaid for by\u201d disclaimer to show the advertiser behind them.<\/span><\/p>\n We\u2019ve also introduced new controls so people can choose to see fewer ads. When people opt in to these controls, they\u2019ll no longer see ads labeled with the \u201cPaid for by\u201d disclaimer.<\/span><\/p>\n All political and electoral ads are added to our <\/span>Ads Library<\/span><\/a> for seven years so that everyone can see information about targeting, which ads are currently running and how much was spent on them.<\/span><\/p>\n We\u2019ve built specialized teams to stop election interference focusing on coordinated inauthentic behavior (CIB) \u2014 when groups of people use sophisticated networks of Pages, Groups and accounts to try and manipulate public debate.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Since 2017, we have removed more than 200 networks globally for CIB and take action when we identify this type of activity on our platforms \u2014 especially when related to elections.
