When given the opportunity to truly take off, these ventures can have a profound impact, helping to share solutions to a wide variety of problems, giving lift to new industries, creating jobs and economic opportunities for everyone\u2019s benefit.<\/p>\n<h2 data-block-key=\"4qufp\">Why we created the Google for Startups Black Founders Fund<\/h2>\n<p data-block-key=\"b6ce\">While the hurdles encountered when setting up a business are significant, these hurdles are unfortunately higher for some than they are for others, with many Black-led businesses often disproportionately underfunded. This stark racial inequality in VC funding prevents many Black-led businesses from being able to make the investments needed to set their startups up for success. Prior to the creation of the Google for Startups Black Founders Fund in 2021, less than 0.25% of VC funding went to Black-led startups.<\/p>\n<p data-block-key=\"ckvma\">The Black Founders fund, now in its third year, aims to tackle this issue by providing standout startups with up to $150,000 each in non-dilutive cash awards, as well as cloud credits, ad support, 1:1 mentoring by industry experts, and invaluable connections within Google\u2019s network. We\u2019re also working across industry to help drive the systemic change needed to transform the UK\u2019s startup ecosystem. Google for Startups partners with ITV, WPP, JCDecaux, Grow London Global and Allen and Overy, who together provide a comprehensive package of advertising, marketing, financial, and legal support to the UK-based Black Founders Fund recipients.<\/p>\n<p data-block-key=\"cupii\">Everyone wins when Britain\u2019s Black Founders are given an equal chance to thrive and the results of previous programmes speak for themselves. Since its launch in 2021, Google for Startups has invested $3.9 million in 46 UK-based startups. Across Europe, these startups have since gone on to raise more than $110 million in follow-on funding and increase their headcount by 21%.<\/p>\n<h2 data-block-key=\"9acf2\">The UK startups selected for this year&#8217;s Black Founders Fund<\/h2>\n<p data-block-key=\"b126p\">Today we unveil the 10 UK-based startups we\u2019ll be working with for this year\u2019s Black Founders Fund programme. A quarter of the 40 startups that have been selected to receive this year\u2019s $4 million are UK-based \u2014 more than any other country in Europe and Africa.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li data-block-key=\"r1br\">Anansi is a digitised insurance broker delivering embedded goods in transit insurance to retailers.<\/li>\n<li data-block-key=\"c9cg5\">Baselime helps software engineers resolve bugs faster in the age of serverless computing.<\/li>\n<li data-block-key=\"4trt9\">Earlybird\u2019s software for employability providers combines voice technology and conversational AI to help providers deliver better quality, scalable support to frequently overlooked jobseekers.<\/li>\n<li data-block-key=\"8mj98\">Gravity Sketch is a virtual 3D design platform revolutionising the way we bring ideas to life and fundamentally changing the way 3D design is done today.<\/li>\n<li data-block-key=\"4kd2b\">Husmus offers a new kind of fair and transparent renters\u2019 insurance for how we rent in the modern world, covering tenant risk to help make renting more affordable.<\/li>\n<li data-block-key=\"4l4gf\">MyoMaster enables everyday athletes to improve their performance and prevent injury.<\/li>\n<li data-block-key=\"dgf5j\">Research Grid Ltd intelligently streamlines medical research processes from months to minutes to reduce inefficiency and inaccessibility.<\/li>\n<li data-block-key=\"1dvl9\">Slinger is a platform that addresses the UK\u2019s hospitality worker shortage by connecting the UK\u2019s 10.3 million frontline workers to Living Wage opportunities.<\/li>\n<li data-block-key=\"8jvrk\">Tangent leverages video technology, generative AI and a dynamic marketplace to connect traditionally overlooked talent to tech employees for an employee referral.<\/li>\n<li data-block-key=\"8cs70\">Upskill Digital is committed to reducing the global digital skills gap by providing accessible learning support to those who need it most.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-block-key=\"5l6p2\">We\u2019re looking forward to working with these businesses to help them reach their full potential and can\u2019t wait to see their impact on the UK\u2019s tech landscape.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.google\/around-the-globe\/google-europe\/black-founders-fund-uk-2023\/\">Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The UK is home to a thriving startup scene with the workforce, conditions and capital needed to turn innovative ideas into profitable ventures.
