This week, we are partnering with the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/nctr.ca\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation (NCTR),<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/nac-cna.ca\/en\/indigenoustheatre\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Indigenous Theatre at the National Arts Centre<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (NAC) and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.slowstudies.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Slow Studies Creative<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> to support their programs of activities marking Truth and Reconciliation Week and launch tools that will help Canadians take action towards reconciliation.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Listening and learning online with the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The NCTR continues the work started by the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rcaanc-cirnac.gc.ca\/eng\/1450124405592\/1529106060525\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada (TRC)<\/span><\/a> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">and is the home of Survivors\u2019 statements, documents, and other materials collected through the TRC. The NCTR is a place of learning and dialogue where the truths of the residential school experience will be honoured and kept safe for future generations.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">To further that mission, the NCTR has partnered with Meta to bring the process of education online. Together, the NCTR and Meta have developed a Messenger experience on Facebook and Instagram that will guide Canadians as they learn about the truths of the residential school system and take action towards reconciliation.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">By interacting with the Messenger experience, and content authored by the NCTR, Canadians will discover what they didn\u2019t learn in history class and reflect on the realities that Survivors endured. You can continue your own path towards reconciliation, in both English and French, through Messenger <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/m.me\/nctr.ca?ref=w20211053\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">here<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. On Instagram, go to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/nctr_um\/?hl=en\">@nctr_um<\/a>, choose the \u201cMessage\u201d button and type \u201cGet Started\u201d to access the experience.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The NCTR will also host a program of activities to mark Truth and Reconciliation Week, supported by Meta. On September 28, NCTR will host a live youth empowerment event in Ottawa \u2013 <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Gidinawendimin: We Are All Related<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> \u2013 where students from across Canada will come together to learn directly from residential school Survivors, in addition to Indigenous music, dance, and cultural presentations.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Closing the week on the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day (September 30), the NCTR will host a gathering on Parliament Hill in Ottawa \u2013 <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Remembering the Children \u2013 <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">to memorialise the children lost to the residential school system and honour Survivors and their families.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">These events will be live streamed on Meta\u2019s technologies<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, which members of the public can watch for free via the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/nctr.ca\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">NCTR\u2019s <\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Facebook page. Bringing these events to a national audience on Facebook ensures that the flames of the activities in Ottawa illuminate every corner of the country. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">You can see the NCTR\u2019s full program of activities <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/nctr.ca\/education\/coming-soon-truth-and-reconciliation-week-2023\/trw2023-gen\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">here<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Amplifying transformative Indigenous voices through digital empowerment<\/span><\/i><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In addition to supporting the NCTR, Meta is also proud to champion the digital empowerment of Indigenous voices with the NAC and Slow Studies Creative.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">On September 23, Indigenous Theatre kicked off its 2023-24 season at the NAC in Ottawa, with <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/nac-cna.ca\/en\/event\/33717\">Papakanje<\/a> \u2013 a<span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> performance celebrating Indigenous voices through performance and conversation. The concert is supported by <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/nac-cna.ca\/en\/reconcilethis\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">#ReconcileThis \u2013 Indigenous Voices Online<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, a four-year collaborative initiative which aims to uplift Indigenous voices online by activating and sharing stories, languages, cultures and perspectives through provocative digital performances and conversations. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Initiatives like #ReconcileThis and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/about.fb.com\/news\/2022\/07\/inuktitut-official-language-on-facebook-desktop\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">translating the Facebook platform into Inuktitut<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> \u2013 a collaboration with the Nunavut Tunngavik that was <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.unesco.org\/en\/articles\/digital-empowerment-driving-international-decade-indigenous-languages?TSPD_101_R0=080713870fab20004cd5d0679325d09714da582c5151bdf55c7b04d02945bbe5ff2ef38cce0d9619085263b5f1143000452029c7c9c50f8a42c0feb1f445583fe5728a3dc9dd798791cfd1e737f5c2e58c8be4e4d338937ad869df0e135013ef\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">recently recognized by UNESCO<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> \u2013 help underscore the Indigenous reality in Canada, and online.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em>Supporting the next generation of Indigenous storytellers<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">From September 26, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dtvan.ca\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Downtown Vancouver BIA<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.slowstudies.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Slow Studies Creative<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and Meta will host the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Immersive Perspectives AR Art Walk <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">on Robson Square Plaza in the heart of downtown Vancouver. Using their phones, members of the public will be able step into a world where Indigenous art comes alive through the magic of augmented reality (AR) and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/spark.meta.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Meta Spark<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> technology, honouring the rich heritage of Indigenous people across Canada.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The activation has been led by <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/about.fb.com\/news\/2022\/11\/creators-of-tomorrow-augmented-reality-and-3d-artist-josh-conrad\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Josh Conrad<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> \u2013 a multi-disciplinary Indigenous artist and founder of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.slowstudies.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Slow Studies Creative<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, in collaboration with Indigenous creators <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/ovila79\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Ovila Mailhot<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/emma_hassencahlperley\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Emma Hassencahl-Perley<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/the.beads.knees\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Mel Beaulieu<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/coastsalishart\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Charlene Johnny<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/nalakwsis\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Nalakwsis<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/amour.lynx\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Amanda Amour-Lynx<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/gaysalishart\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Chase Gray<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> \u2013 all members of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.slowstudies.com\/spark-indigenous\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Spark Indigenous<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Visitors to Robson Square can interact with the AR filter for free by scanning the QR codes printed around the square until October 6.
