As 2024 concludes, we\u2019re looking back at the products, updates and initiatives that marked a year of innovation at Meta. This was a year of pushing our products forward while adding helpful new features and working to keep people safe across our platforms.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

These highlights provide a quick overview of some of the year\u2019s biggest accomplishments as we gear up for 2025. <\/span><\/p>\n

Looking Forward With Open Source AI, Orion and More<\/h2>\n

\"A<\/a>In 2024, we introduced Meta AI<\/a>, an AI assistant that we believe to be the most advanced one available for free.
<\/span><\/p>\n

\"A<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

Built using Llama, our open source AI model, Meta AI can be used across Meta\u2019s apps to help you get things done, learn, create and connect with the things and people that matter to you. It can help you plan a trip, study and more, and it\u2019s on track to be the world\u2019s most used AI assistant by the end of the year, with nearly 600 million monthly active users.<\/span><\/p>\n

Earlier this year, our Founder & CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, <\/span>wrote an open letter<\/span><\/a> about open source AI\u2019s potential to effect meaningful change. With more than 650 million downloads, Llama has become a popular choice in the open source community. \"A<\/a>We\u2019ve seen <\/span>companies employing Llama<\/span><\/a> to build technology for the public good, from <\/span>localizing educational material<\/span><\/a> to <\/span>increasing access to medical information<\/span><\/a> in low-resource communities.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In addition to AI, we made industry-leading advancements in AR when we introduced <\/span>Orion<\/span><\/a>, our first true AR glasses prototype, a key part of our vision to build the next computing platform that puts people at the center so they can be more present, connected and empowered in the world. \"A<\/a>We also released <\/span>Meta Quest 3S<\/span><\/a>, our most affordable mixed reality headset yet, and brought to market new styles and smart features for <\/span>Ray-Ban Meta glasses<\/span><\/a>, like helping you remember where you parked and answering questions based on what you\u2019re looking at.<\/span><\/p>\n

And we made significant progress integrating Threads into the <\/span>fediverse<\/span><\/a>, a global social network of interoperable servers.<\/span><\/p>\n

Adding the Features You Asked For<\/h2>\n

We\u2019re always looking to enhance your experience across our family of apps by adding features that continually raise the bar, and this year was no different.\u00a0<\/span>\"A<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

For WhatsApp, we <\/span>improved call quality<\/span><\/a> and made in-group calling more flexible, plus we introduced <\/span>enhanced AI features<\/span><\/a> for business chats and a new way to <\/span>schedule events<\/span><\/a>. Over on Threads, we added exciting new <\/span>web features<\/span><\/a> to help businesses and creators get the most out of the platform \u2013 insights, post scheduling and multiple drafts.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"A<\/a><\/span>We also focused on making sure your experience on Instagram reflects you \u2013 who you are, what you want to see and what you create.
\"An<\/a>In addition to features allowing you to edit DMs and pin chats<\/a>, we introduced new ways to connect<\/a> through Instagram DMs, including nicknames and location sharing, making Instagram an even more vibrant place to connect.

We know people want to be able to shape their experience on Instagram as their interests and passions change, which is why we started testing a new way to <\/span>reset the recommendations<\/span><\/a> you see on Instagram\u2019s Explore, Reels and Feed. And for creators, Instagram\u2019s new <\/span>trial reels<\/span><\/a> let creators show your reels to non-followers first to test how they perform.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Keeping Our Platforms Safe<\/h2>\n

In 2024, we stayed vigilant about security and safety, adapting our platforms for an evolving digital landscape. <\/span><\/p>\n

We introduced Instagram Teen Accounts<\/a>, giving teens built-in protections which limit who can contact them and the content they see. \"An<\/a>We launched a new education campaign<\/a> to help teens and parents spot sextortion scams and we collaborated with<\/a> experts and peers to help prevent the spread of suicide and self-harm content online. <\/span><\/p>\n

To help stop celeb-bait ads and speed up account recovery, we began testing facial recognition technology<\/a>. \"A<\/a>This innovative, easy verification method ensures the right person accesses the right account. <\/span>And we\u2019re protecting communications between you and the people important to you. \"\"<\/a> End-to-end encryption<\/a> on Messenger secures your conversations by making it so that nobody sees them except you and the people you\u2019re messaging with.<\/span><\/p>\n

We spent 2024 innovating, updating and protecting \u2013 pushing technology forward while keeping your experience secure. It was a strong year, and we\u2019re excited for the next one.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
