We\u2019ve been talking for years about how to build a business on WhatsApp in a way that doesn\u2019t interrupt personal chats, and we believe the Updates tab is the right place to introduce that.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Updates tab is where you discover something new on WhatsApp \u2013 whether that\u2019s a friend\u2019s status from their wedding day or a creator\u2019s entertaining channel \u2013 and it\u2019s now used by 1.5 billion people per day globally. Now the Updates tab is going to be able to help Channel admins, organizations and businesses build and grow.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">We\u2019re going to do this in three ways:\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>Channel subscriptions:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> You\u2019ll be able to support your favorite channel, such as your favorite news network, by subscribing to receive exclusive updates for a monthly fee.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>Promoted Channels<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">: We\u2019ll help you discover new channels that might be interesting to you when you\u2019re looking through the directory. For the first time, channel admins have a way to increase their channels\u2019 visibility.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>Ads in Status: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">You\u2019ll be able to find a new business and easily start a conversation with them about a product or service they\u2019re promoting in Status.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Subscriptions, promotions and ads will appear only on the Updates tab, away from your personal chats. This means if you only use WhatsApp to chat with friends and loved ones, there will be no change to your experience at all.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/about.fb.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/01_WhatsApp-Updates-Tab.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-43777\" src=\"https:\/\/about.fb.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/01_WhatsApp-Updates-Tab.gif?resize=960%2C734\" alt=\"Interfaces for ads in status, channel subscriptions and channel promotions\" width=\"960\" height=\"734\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Ads Built With Privacy in Mind<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Like everything else on WhatsApp, we\u2019ve built these features in the most privacy-oriented way possible. Your personal messages, calls and statuses remain end-to-end encrypted, meaning no one can see or hear them. That includes Meta.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">To show ads in Status or Channels you might care about, we\u2019ll use limited info like your country or city, language, the Channels you\u2019re following and how you interact with the ads you see. For people that have chosen to add WhatsApp to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/about.fb.com\/news\/2023\/01\/centralizing-apps-settings-in-accounts-center\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Accounts Center<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, we\u2019ll also use your ad preferences and info from across your Meta accounts.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">We will never sell or share your phone number to advertisers.
