We have dedicated over a decade to developing products that prioritize teen safety. There is a growing consensus across the industry that teens deserve uniform safeguards across all the digital platforms they use.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">That\u2019s why Meta introduced Instagram Teen Accounts in Indonesia earlier this year, reimagining the Instagram experience for both teens and their parents and guardians. Teen Accounts come with built-in safeguards that limit who can contact a teen and the content they see, and help ensure teens\u2019 time is well-spent. We automatically place teens into Teen Accounts, and teens under 16 need a supervising parent or guardian\u2019s permission to change any of the default settings to be less strict.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Research Shows Strong Parental Support for Teen Accounts in Indonesia<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">We designed Teen Accounts with parents\u2019 and guardians\u2019 top concerns in mind \u2014 and, in new research, they express strong support for these changes. In a recent <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ipsos.com\/sites\/default\/files\/ct\/news\/documents\/2025-09\/Ipsos%20%26amp%3B%20Meta%20Indonesia%20Parent%20Survey%20-%20English.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">survey<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">* of Indonesian parents and guardians, conducted by Ipsos on behalf of Meta, we found that:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">91% of parents and guardians surveyed support social media companies creating special accounts for teenagers with additional protections, and 92% view Instagram Teen Accounts as helpful for parents.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">87% of parents and guardians surveyed say Instagram Teen Accounts make them more confident with their teen using Instagram.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">More than 90% of parents and guardians surveyed say each of the default protections provided by Instagram Teen Accounts would be helpful in supporting their teen on Instagram.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Meta\u2019s Commitment to Supporting Teens<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">While these results are promising<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, we\u2019re continuing to make changes to help support parents, guardians, and teens. We\u2019re pleased to announce the recent expansion of our dedicated Teen Accounts experience on Instagram to Facebook and Messenger in Indonesia, providing parents and guardians with even greater support and reassurance, and helping ensure that teens can safely connect with friends and explore their interests on social media with guardrails in place.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">These safeguards will include measures similar to those that teens experience on Instagram, such as automatic protections to limit inappropriate or unwanted contact, as well as measures to help ensure teens\u2019 time is well spent.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Balancing the Benefits of Online Connections<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Parents and guardians\u2019 overwhelming support for a dedicated teen experience online with built-in protections shows the importance of a balanced approach towards online safety. Limiting access for under-16s\u00a0 could reduce valuable opportunities for connection, learning, and entertainment. But a measured approach using dedicated teen safety accounts with built-in protections and support, like Meta\u2019s Teen Accounts, respects families\u2019 safety priorities while enabling teens to safely engage with social media within a protected environment.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Meta remains dedicated to working with families and communities to create a safe online environment for teens. By putting these protective measures in place, we aim to support families and enhance the overall online experience for young users in Indonesia.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">* <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Based on a survey of 1,001 Indonesian adults who report being the parent or guardian of at least one child aged 13-17.
