As 2025 comes to a close, we\u2019re looking back at some of our biggest moments of the year. We shared our vision for personal superintelligence, broke ground on cutting-edge AI data centers, strengthened protections for teens, launched products enjoyed by billions of people, and more.<\/span><\/p>\n

Driving AI Innovation<\/h2>\n

We <\/span>introduced the Meta AI app<\/span><\/a>, a personalized AI assistant built with Llama 4 that helps you solve problems, <\/span>create<\/span><\/a>, and navigate your daily life. We also <\/span>launched Vibes<\/span><\/a>, a new feed of AI videos at the center of the Meta AI app, where you can explore, experiment, and express yourself with AI media tools.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Vibes<\/a><\/p>\n

In March, we hit <\/span>1 billion downloads of Llama<\/span><\/a>, our open source AI model, and it\u2019s being used by developers and organizations all over the world to drive innovation in areas like <\/span>national security<\/span><\/a>, <\/span>space exploration<\/span><\/a>, <\/span>science<\/span><\/a>, <\/span>agriculture, healthcare, and education<\/span><\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

On the research side, we shared some of our most innovative AI models yet: <\/span>SAM 3, SAM 3D<\/span><\/a>, <\/span>SAM Audio<\/span><\/a>, and <\/span>V-JEPA<\/span><\/a>. Our new SAM models enable object segmentation using text and visual prompts, 3D reconstruction of objects from a single image, and industry-leading audio segmentation. V-JEPA improves AI\u2019s ability to navigate the physical world.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

And our Founder and CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, shared his vision for <\/span>personal superintelligence<\/span><\/a>, a version of AI that empowers people to live more meaningful, connected lives.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Building AI-Optimized Infrastructure<\/h2>\n

Our AI workload is rapidly growing, and we\u2019re building the infrastructure we need to power this growth. We broke ground on three data centers this year, including an <\/span>AI-optimized data center<\/span><\/a> in El Paso, Texas that has the ability to scale to 1 gigawatt and <\/span>another in Beaver Dam Wisconsin<\/span><\/a>, that marked our 30th data center overall.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Abstract<\/a><\/p>\n

Two other <\/span>data centers in our fleet<\/span><\/a> became operational and we announced a new <\/span>agreement with Constellation Energy<\/span><\/a> to generate nuclear energy to support our data center operations. We also continued to invest in the communities that host our data centers through the <\/span>Data Center Community Action Grants<\/span><\/a> and other programs, and <\/span>supported thousands of jobs<\/span><\/a> in the American economy through our construction and operational data centers. And at <\/span>this year\u2019s Open Compute Project Global Summit<\/span><\/a>, we shared our newest open hardware innovations and proposed a framework for sustainable hardware design.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Collage<\/a><\/p>\n

Creating the Next Generation of Wearable Technology<\/h2>\n

We believe glasses are the ideal form factor for AI. That\u2019s why we introduced four new pairs of AI glasses this year. <\/span>Meta Ray-Ban Display<\/span><\/a> are the most advanced AI glasses we\u2019ve ever built. Each pair comes with <\/span>a full-color, high-resolution display and an<\/span> EMG wristband that translates signals created by your muscles into commands for your glasses \u2014 an advancement that has major <\/span>benefits for people with disabilities<\/span><\/a>. <\/span><\/p>\n

\"Video<\/a><\/p>\n

With <\/span>Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 2)<\/span><\/a>, we\u2019re giving you better battery life, improved video quality, new styles and more. We also launched <\/span>Oakley Meta HSTN<\/span><\/a>, our first ever Performance AI glasses for athletes and fans alike, followed by <\/span>Oakley Meta Vanguard<\/span><\/a>, glasses built for high-intensity sports that enable you to listen to music, take a call, capture video, check your pace, and more hands-free while you train.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Helping Keep Teens Safe<\/h2>\n

We want teens to have safe, age-appropriate experiences on our apps, so we\u2019re constantly gathering feedback from parents and experts to improve our features and deliver better experiences. Building on the success of <\/span>Teen Accounts<\/span><\/a>, we added <\/span>new protections<\/span><\/a> and <\/span>unveiled <\/span>updated content settings<\/span><\/a>,<\/span> inspired by movie ratings for ages 13+. This means teens will see content on Instagram that\u2019s similar to what they\u2019d see in age-appropriate movies by default, and we introduced a new, stricter setting for parents <\/span>who prefer a more restrictive experience for their teen<\/span>.<\/span> We also announced new controls to help parents manage how their <\/span>teens interact with AI<\/span><\/a> on our apps, <\/span>took legal action<\/span><\/a> against companies behind nudify apps, and <\/span>partnered with schools to address cyberbullying<\/span><\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Improving Our Apps<\/h2>\n

We\u2019re constantly building new features on our apps to make sure they\u2019re helping you connect, explore, and express yourself. This year, we <\/span>launched Edits<\/span><\/a>, a brand new app for creating and editing videos all in one place. On Instagram, we rolled out new ways to discover and engage with fun content, like <\/span>reposts, Reels blend, and more<\/span><\/a> and even <\/span>brought Reels to your TV<\/span><\/a>. We also <\/span>added DM updates<\/span><\/a> like scheduled messages and QR codes for group chats to make it even easier to connect. Threads saw some exciting updates too, like <\/span>direct messaging,<\/span><\/a> text attachments<\/span><\/a>, and <\/span>communities<\/span><\/a>, so you can share your best ideas and find your people on Threads.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Collage<\/a><\/p>\n

WhatsApp continued to grow in the US, and we introduced <\/span>message translation<\/span><\/a> and support on more devices like <\/span>iPad<\/span><\/a> and <\/span>Apple Watch<\/span><\/a>. Over on Facebook, we made it easier to connect with the people close to you with <\/span>the new Friends tab<\/span><\/a> and <\/span>collaborative shopping<\/span><\/a> on Marketplace, and we took steps to <\/span>crack down on spammy content<\/span><\/a> to help creators break through.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

We also launched <\/span>Community Notes<\/span><\/a>, a new approach that lets contributors add context to posts on Facebook, Instagram, and Threads to encourage more speech and minimize enforcement errors on our platforms.<\/span><\/p>\n

From AI breakthroughs and sustainable infrastructure to advances in wearable technology and safer online spaces, 2025 was a year of bold ideas and real impact at Meta. As we head into 2026, we\u2019re looking forward to continuing to shape the future of technology and human connection. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
