The Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC), in partnership with Meta, is launching a nationwide privacy education campaign to raise awareness of Meta\u2019s privacy programs and controls in Nigeria. Running for six weeks, the campaign will feature creative educational content in English and local languages on Facebook and Instagram, reaching millions of Nigerians and\u00a0 aims to ensure that everyone has the tools to protect their privacy, keep their personal information secure, and make choices that work best for them.<\/span><\/p>\n Nigerians will be encouraged to explore Facebook\u2019s privacy controls which include Privacy Checkup, end-to-end encryption, Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) and Login Alerts to better protect their personal information and strengthen account security through this campaign.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cProtecting people\u2019s privacy is a priority for us and we\u2019re proud to be working with the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) to raise awareness and help Nigerians stay in control of their online privacy choices. With this campaign, we\u2019re taking an important step toward educating users by ensuring they are aware of the tools available on Meta\u2019s platforms to protect their privacy and can confidently make the privacy decisions that are work best for them,\u201d<\/span> said Sade Dada, Head of Public Policy, Anglophone West Africa at Meta.<\/span><\/p>\n The campaign underscores Meta\u2019s global commitment to privacy education and supports the NDPC\u2019s vision of making data privacy a cornerstone of a sustainable digital economy in Nigeria. Since 2019, Meta has invested over $8 billion in enhancing our privacy program and developing tools that provide people with greater transparency into how their data is used, along with clear options to manage it.<\/span><\/p>\n Dr Vincent Olatunji, National Commissioner\/CEO, Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC), described the Privacy Education Campaign as a significant milestone in enlightening over 60 million Nigerians about their right to data privacy \u2013 \u201cSocial media platforms have become a significant part of modern day interaction and information sharing.
