Gemini launches new personalisation features in the UK

Our vision for Gemini is to build an assistant that truly understands you—one that evolves with your needs rather than providing one-size-fits-all responses. Today, we’re introducing new features designed to make Gemini feel tailored to you, not just a generic tool that works the same for everyone.

Use your past chats to get more personalized responses

Today, we’re bringing our “Memories” setting to the UK, allowing Gemini to learn from your past conversations over time. When this setting is on, Gemini remembers key details and preferences you’ve shared, leading to more natural and relevant conversations, as if you’re collaborating with a partner who’s already up to speed.

Here’s how this personal context can bring a conversation to life:

  • You’ve previously discussed the evolution of characters’ powers in your favorite comic book. Now, if you ask Gemini to “brainstorm a birthday party theme that’s unique to me,” it might suggest a celebration based on your favorite character, complete with themed food and a custom photo booth with props.
  • You’ve previously asked Gemini for summaries of some of the latest non-fiction recommended from BookTok. When you ask Gemini to recommend a book you’d like, Gemini may suggest books with similar themes to those you’ve discussed before and even provide popular quotes for your social posts.
  • You’ve previously used Gemini to brainstorm ideas for a YouTube channel focused on Japanese culture. When you ask for “new content ideas based on my interests,” Gemini may suggest a video theme like “My First Time Trying…” where you film yourself trying a new Japanese food, a traditional craft (like origami or a tea ceremony) or even a new game from Japan.

We’re rolling out this feature starting today, with availability for all users in the coming weeks. This setting is on by default to help Gemini give you more relevant responses, but you remain in control and can turn this setting on or off at any time. To adjust your settings, simply head to your Settings in the Gemini app and select “Personal context,” then ”Memory”. As before, you can manage and delete your conversations in Gemini Apps Activity.

Bring your AI memories and chat history to Gemini

We believe that the most helpful AI assistant is one that’s personal to you, and understands your preferences and past conversations. But if you’re curious to try a different option, starting over with an assistant that doesn’t know you can feel daunting.

That’s why we’re introducing new, easy-to-use switching tools for all consumer accounts — allowing you to easily bring your memories, context and chat history from other AI apps directly into Gemini

.

Teach Gemini what matters

Starting today, our new memory import feature can easily bring an understanding of your key preferences, relationships, and personal context directly into Gemini. Once you import these memories, Gemini will understand the same key facts you’ve shared with other apps, like your interests, your sibling’s name, or where you grew up. Instead of starting over from scratch, you can quickly get Gemini up to speed on what matters most to you.

To bring your memory from other AI apps to Gemini, just head to your Settings and select the new import option. You’ll get a suggested prompt to copy and paste into your current AI app. Once your other app generates a summary of your preferences, simply copy that response and paste it back into Gemini. Gemini will instantly analyze the information and securely save those details to your Gemini context, ready to be used in your next chat.
