Google launches initiative to accelerate Black representation in tech

We founded Tech Equity Collective in 2021 to accelerate Black innovation and representation in tech. To make sure the mission resonates beyond Google, we’ve partnered with other tech companies and community organizations to create new career pathways for emerging Black tech innovators and technologists. Innovation is fueled by investment, and so last year TEC launched the Tech Equity Collective Impact Fund to provide support for organizations actively advancing Black technical talent.

Today, we’re announcing that applications for the second cycle of the TEC Impact Fund are open — and we’re encouraging organizations seeking to drive equitable access in the tech industry to apply.

The TEC Impact Fund — from an initial pool of $1 million — will provide support to 20 grantees along with a trove of industry resources and expertise from the Tech Equity Collective.

Selection as an Impact Fund grantee includes:

  • Non-dilutive financial support: $50K in non-dilutive funding to fortify initiatives and upskill aspiring and emerging Black technical talent.
  • Enhanced strategy and operations: Monthly virtual seminars to accelerate organizational growth — featuring topics such as leadership and fundraising — led by industry thought leaders and practitioners.
  • A valuable community: Exclusive access to Tech Equity Collective’s vibrant community of industry experts, advisors, and peer organizations committed to uplifting Black talent in tech. Grantees will collaborate, share resources, and tap into collective intelligence to multiply their impact.

Last year’s grantees, including ColorStack and Diversiboard, affirm the TEC Impact Fund’s transformative impact on the communities they serve, citing scaled efforts, empowered leadership and subsequent fundraising. One grantee, Morgan Latimer Consulting CEO Anthony Mays, noted, “Thanks to the TEC Impact Fund grant, we were able to launch our first ever course on technical interviewing.”
